Specifying your Solatube® Daylighting System
The Solatube Brighten Up® Series
The Solatube® Brighten Up® Series is designed for specification into smaller working areas and residential applications. There are two diameter sizes in the Brighten Up® Series; the Solatube® 160 DS (250mm diameter) and the Solatube® 290 DS (350mm diameter).
To determine the Solatube® product you require, you will need to determine the following details:
1. the Solatube® size (diameter) you require
2. the length of tubing required
3. the roof flashing type required
1. What size Solatube® Daylighting System do you require?
This will depend mainly on the size of the area you wish to illuminate – below is a guide. For larger areas or long narrow corridors or hallways, Solatube® Daylighting Systems can be used in multiples. Do also take into account the ceiling height — if it is much higher than average you may need to consider a larger diameter system.
2. How much tubing is required?
To determine how much tubing is required you will need to measure the install distance – the distance between the underside of the roof and the ceiling.
For install distances up to 400mm ...
No additional extension tubes are required; each Solatube® Daylighting System is supplied with a top tube and ceiling tube assembly that together give an install distance of up to 400mm. This is sufficient for a flat roof or vaulted ceiling installation.
For install distances over 400mm ...
For install distances greater than 400mm, you will need to purchase additional extension tubes; extension tubes are 610mm long and are joined together to make up the install distance required. To calculate how many 610mm long extension tubes you require, determine your install distance, then use the chart below to calculate the number of tubes required.
3. What roof flashing do you require?
Our roof flashing range covers virtually all UK pitched and flat roof types and they are designed to ensure a weather-proof and maintenance-free installation. No environmentally-unfriendly lead is required to fit Solatube flashings. We recommend the use of Solatube flashing insulators to re-seal the cut felt membrane on the roof.

The Solatube Solamaster® Series
The Solatube® Solamaster® Series delivers daylight to larger, more expansive areas. Often specified in the educational, healthcare and commercial sectors, these 530mm diameter daylighting systems feature 99.7% reflective Spectralight® Infinity tubing R
11; the most reflective material used in any tubular daylighting device and exclusive to Solatube® Daylighting Systems, and patented LightTracker™ Reflector for excellent daylight harvesting. These technologies make it possible to bring daylight deeper into buildings where natural light has previously not been an option.
Solamaster® 330 DS C – for drywall and suspended ceilings features a patented transition box that ingeniously converts the 530mm diameter tubing to a 600mm square diffuser that fits neatly into a commercial suspended ceiling grid or up into a drywall ceiling. 
A range of square diffusers is available.
Solamaster® 330 DS O – for open ceilings brings high performance daylighting to areas without a ceiling such as warehouses, factories, and sports facilities. The 99.7% reflective tube brings the diffuser through any light-absorbing roof-support structures to deliver the highest levels of natural light.
One Solatube® 330 DS (530mm diameter) will light an area up to 30sqm, subject to application.
