Solatube roof dome

Solatube roof domeSolatube® domes are injection moulded from virtually unbreakable, impact-resistant polycarbonate, TP(a) fire rated to comply with UK Building Regulations, and they incorporate UV screening. The curved shape of the roof dome ensures that the surface is cleansed by the elements and therefore is completely maintenance-free.

The Raybender® 3000 Fresnel lens in the dome and the LightTracker reflector ensure that the most daylight possible is captured by the dome. Solatube® roof domes comply with all UK building regulations and are even approved for use in hurricane and cyclone zones.

Solatube roof flashings

All Solatube® Daylighting Systems are supplied with a roof flashing. Our roof flashing range covers virtually all UK pitched and flat roof types and they are designed to ensure a weather-proof and maintenance-free installation. No environmentally-unfriendly lead is required to fit Solatube® flashings. We recommend the use of Solatube® flashing insulators to re-seal the cut felt membrane on the roof – please see our Accessories page.

Solatube leak proof design flashings

Please contact us if you need any advice regarding a suitable flashing for your roof type. Above are some examples of our most widely-used flashings; we are also able to supply flashings for more unusual roof types such as thatch, standing seam, metal roof tile, wall-mounted and land homes, and can advise on flashings for listed buildings and homes in conservation areas.

Solatube top tube assembly

Solatube top tube assembly with neoprene dome ringThe top tube assembly is made from 99.7% reflective Spectralight® Infinity material and incorporates a 0-30° adjustable angle for ease of installation – the tube rotates to the required angle in order to accommodate different roof pitches and to route tubing around obstacles in the attic. Specially designed exit points ensure moisture control

The assembly is constructed with factory-installed seals to prevent air infiltration and a proprietary condensation control system that draws any condensation in the dome into a special channel in the roof dome and out onto the roof through specially-designed exit points (right).

A neoprene dome ring insulator provides a thermal break and insect seal between the roof flashing and dome ring. The assembly has a removable film that protects the reflective surface during transit and installation.

Solatube ceiling tube assembly

Solatube ceiling tube assemblyThe ceiling tube assembly is also made from 99.7% reflective Spectralight® Infinity material and has an adjustable 0-30° angle adaptor. For ease of installation and adjustment, it features a pre-assembled Unique Solatube twist lock mechanismceiling-ring, with integrated triple seal for excellent insulation, and four twist-lock fixing mechanisms (right) that make it easy to clamp the ceiling tube assembly to the ceiling yet can easily be loosened to allow adjustments during the installation process. The assembly has a removable film that protects the reflective surface during transit and installation.

Each tube assembly is 305mm long; together they give an install distance (roof to ceiling) of up to 400mm. This is generally sufficient for flat roofs, vaulted ceilings, or very shallow pitch roofs. For greater install distances you will need to purchase additional extension tubes (see below).

Solatube ceiling diffuser

The Vusion™ diffuser is supplied as standard with every Solatube® 160 DS or 290 DS. It fits neatly to the ceiling with no visible fasteners, and delivers outstanding natural light diffusion through a frosted prismatic lens.

Solatube Vusion diffuser delivers outstanding natural light diffusion through a frosted prismatic lens

This quality diffuser features a push on/off fitting. It is double-glazed to prevent heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, thus saving you money on energy costs. The diffuser blocks virtually all UV transmission to prevent fading of carpets and soft furnishings.

All Solatube diffusers are double-glazed to save your energy costs

Solatube® offers a wide range of ceiling trims and diffuser lenses, so you’re guaranteed to find a design to complement your home.

Solatube extension tubes

Solatube extension sections

Solatube® extension tubes are available in straight or angled 610mm lengths. If your install distance is greater than 400mm you will need to purchase additional extension tubes to meet the distance required. See our specification page to calculate the number of tubes you will require over a given install distance.

The straight tube lengths telescope together to give you the required tube length to meet your install distance requirement. The 99.7% reflective Spectralight® Infinity material used in Solatube® extension tubes means that very effective light delivery is possible with tube lengths of up to 6 metres for the Solatube® 160 DS and 9 metres for the Solatube® 290 DS.

The angled extension tube lengths incorporate a 0-90 degree angle that twists to accommodate turns and avoid obstructions in the tube's path. They also use 99.7% Spectralight® Infinity for minimal light loss. Please see our Accessories section for further details.

  • If you are installing on a steeper-pitched roof with a north, west or east aspect you should always opt for an angled upstand for maximum light delivery
  • All flashings are supplied with appropriate sealant where required
  • Solaflex is a an environmentally friendly and recyclable alternative fixing material to lead and may be used in all applications where lead is traditionally installed
  • Turret extensions may be used to raise the height of the Solatube dome on a roof to avoid snow, water or shading from roof obstructions– please contact us for details
  • Flashing insulators are recommended for all applications to reseal the roofing felt and are available as an optional accessory
  • The 99.7% reflectivity value of the Spectralight Infinity material that is used on all Solatube reflective surfaces has been certified by the BBA
